  3. Our MD meets the Prince of Wales during Notpla visit
MD meets prince preview

Our Managing Director met the Prince of Wales recently as part of our commitment to working in partnership with Notpla and its innovative range of sustainable products (June 2023).

The occasion was part of our support of Notpla and its pledge to drive innovation within the field of compostable and recyclable food packaging.

Mission to reduce throwaway plastic

Steve Norris, our MD, explains: “Notpla is on a mission to reduce the amount of plastic we throw away and to make disposable packaging more sustainable.

“In December, they were awarded the prestigious Earthshot Prize in the ‘Build a Waste-Free World’ category. The prize is designed to find and grow the solutions that will repair our planet during this decade and was founded by Prince William.

Innovative seaweed-coating

The visit was made by His Royal Highness, who is also President of the organisation, to allow him to learn more about Notpla’s innovative seaweed-coating for food takeaway boxes, as well as meeting key distribution partners like Tri-Star.

“For many years, our mission has been to seek out, test and introduce a wider variety of more sustainable packaging. We are delighted to offer these award-winning, recyclable and home-compostable kraft food boxes, made with a natural seaweed-derived formulation, to our customers.”

‘Sustainable Future’ programme

We’ve been supplying clients with Notpla seaweed-coated food takeaway boxes for almost two years now.

It’s part of our ‘Sustainable Future’ programme, which provides our customers with more sustainable alternatives to traditional food packaging products.

Less than six weeks to decompose

Notpla’s products are unique due to the special lining made from seaweed that replaces the usual barrier coatings on foodservice products. Unlike PE and bioplastics, its coating does not require specific recycling pathways or specialised industrial composting equipment to degrade. It takes less than six weeks for it to completely decompose in a home composting environment.

In recognition of the award, Notpla’s seaweed-coated takeaway boxes will now feature the Earthshot prize logo.
